Takashi Yamazaki

TAKASHI YAMAZAKI

Takashi Yamazaki (山崎 貴史 Yamazaki Takashi?) is a student in Sakura Kinomoto's, and the only male student in the class to be referred to by name before the introduction of Syaoran Li . The character is named after film director, Takashi Yamazaki, who is a friend of the series creators, CLAMP.[citation needed]. Throughout the series, Yamazaki's defining trait is his ability to fabricate highly detailed fake stories and histories about practically any subject. While most of his classmates see through these fabrications, Sakura and Syaoran often believe them. When the character Eriol Hiiragizawa is introduced in the second half of the series, he becomes Yamazaki's storytelling ally. The two are able to respond to one another's clues perfectly and spin complex stories on the fly.

Fellow classmate Chiharu Mihara often interrupts his stories so others know when he is lying, and proceeds to punish him for lying by pretending to strangle him or by dragging him away by his collar. While the two often seem to be arguing, they are actually a couple and have known one another since kindergarten. She is the only girl in the series that he addresses by her first name. Despite Yamazaki's often joking nature, he is shown to have a serious and sensitive side as well, willing to jump into a fierce wave to attempt to save fellow classmate Rika from drowning, and leaving Chiharu alone to talk to Sakura when Sakura was struggling with her feelings for Syaoran.

In the anime adaptation, Yamazaki is the only character to be rarely shown with his eyes open. His relationship with Chiharu is left more ambiguous, though on the day of Judgement when Sakura is shown a world in which everyone losing their feelings for the person they love the most, Yamazaki and Chiharu lose their feelings for each other and are shown to be strangers.

In the Cardcaptors English adaptation, Yamazaki's name is changed to Zachary Marker and all hints of his relationship with Chiharu are removed. Instead, they are said to be cousins and the Chiharu's joking strangling of Yamazaki is considered to be sibling rivalry.

Yamazaki is voiced by Issei Miyazaki in the anime adaptation, and by Philip Pacaud in Cardcaptors. In the English dub of the second film, he is voiced by Joshua Seth.

Nadeshiko Kinomoto

NADESHIKO KINOMOTO

Nadeshiko Kinomoto (木之本 撫子 Kinomoto Nadeshiko, maiden name Amamiya,?) is the mother of the series titular character, Sakura Kinomoto, who died seven years before the series starts. Only seen in flashbacks, photographs, and as a spirit, Nadeshiko was a high school student and professional model when she met and fell in love with Fujitaka Kinomoto, who was her teacher. Her family disapproved of their marriage when Nadeshiko was sixteen. Nadeshiko continued to send gifts to her father, and maintained contact with her cousin Sonomi Daidōji. At the age of 27, Nadeshiko died, and Sonomi, who loved Nadeshiko greatly, blamed Fujitaka. It is hinted that after her death, the Amamiya family cut off all contact with Fujitaka and the children from the marriage, as Sakura is shown learning that Sonomi, who is the mother of her best friend, is a relative, and meeting her great-grandfather (Nadeshiko's grandfather) for the first time as the series progresses.

Though Nadeshiko has died, her love for Fujitaka and her children, and visa versa continues to live on. She frequently visits the family as a winged spirit, though initially only Toya can see her. In the manga, it is noted that Toya likely inherited this power from Nadeshiko, implying she too could see spirits. Throughout the series, she worries over Sakura as the young girl begins gathering the Clow Cards. When the Illusion card tricks Sakura into walking off a cliff, Nadeshiko's spirit grabs her arm and keeps her from falling until Yukito Tsukishiro arrives to catch her. Later in the series, when Sakura develops a high fever, Nadeshiko appears and puts her hand on Sakura's forehead, lowering the fever. When Fujitaka goes to talk to her grandfather for the first time in a long time, she rains Sakura blossoms over them to show her happiness that they are reconciling.

The family is shown to also still love her, most noticeably through a picture kept in the dining area near the kitchen table. Fujitaka changes the picture each morning and Sakura always greets the picture while coming to breakfast. At the end of the series, after Fujitaka receives half of Eriol's powers, he and Nadeshiko are happily "reunited" as the magic allows him to finally see her.

In the anime adaptation, Nadeshiko's role is generally unchanged, except that Fujitaka is never able to see her as he does not receive any magical powers. She is voiced by Yūko Minaguchi. In the Cardcaptors English dub, her name is changed to Natasha Avalon.

Naoko Yanagizawa

NAOKO YANAGIZAWA

Naoko Yanagisawa (柳沢 奈緒子 Yanagisawa Naoko?) is one of Sakura Kinomoto's elementary school classmates and friends. She is also on the cheerleading squad with Sakura. Naoko loves to read, particularly fantasy stories and ghost stories. She finds mysterious situations fascinating and shows no fear of scary situations. In the 31st episode of the anime adaptation, Naoko accidentally acquires the The Create card, which had disguised itself as a book. In book form, The Create would create anything that Naoko wrote in the book, though she was unaware of it. This results in Sakura and company having to deal with a confusing area of odd mystical creatures and circumstances, including a fire-breathing dragon. When she goes to bed and closes the book, the card's power is stopped and Sakura is able to capture it. When Naoko wakes in the morning to find the book gone, she thinks it disappeared from a supernatural experience and is happy.

During an interview, Clamp noted that they had originally intended for the character to have a long-distance boyfriend, but the chapter featuring that story was cut out of the series.[8][verification needed]

Naoko is voiced by Emi Motoi. In the English adaptation Cardcaptors, her name is changed to Nikki and she is voiced by Kelly Sheridan. In the English dub of the second movie, she is voiced by Sherry Lynn.

Kaho Mizuki

KAHO MIZUKI

Kaho Mizuki (観月 歌帆 Mizuki Kaho?) is a shrine maiden and the daughter of the priest at the Tsukimine Shrine. She first appears in the series as a new substitute teacher at Tomoeda Elementary School for the math class of Sakura Kinomoto and Syaoran Li. While Sakura instantly likes the teacher and feels a connection with her, Syaoran is distrustful and believes she is up to no good.

When Sakura, Syaoran, Meiling and Tomoyo are trapped by the Maze card, Kaho uses a mysterious bell to break through Maze's walls allowing Sakura to capture it. After this incident, the readers lead that Sakura's older brother Toya dated Kaho when she was his junior high school teacher and that they broke up when Kaho left to study in England. Before she left, she told them that when they met again, they would be in love with different people which he acknowledges is now true.

After meeting her, Cerberus incorrectly believes that Kaho is the false form of his fellow guardian Yue, which is later shown to actually be Yukito Tsukishiro. Kaho's role is to use the bell left at her family's shrine to give Sakura another chance when she is unable to defeat Yue out of fear of hurting him. The bell changes Sakura's staff into a new staff containing her own power of the stars and gives her the power to use the cards to defeat Yue. After fulfilling this duty, she returns to England. During the third season of the series, she is primarily "seen" through providing a steady, but often times enigmatic exchange of letters with Sakura over the mysterious attacks. After Eriol Hiiragizawa reveals the truth behind the attacks, they learn that Kaho had met Eriol three years before Sakura discovered the Book of the Clow. As they leave for England, Kaho and Eriol confirm their feelings for one another and vow to remain together. In the anime, Kaho is last seen in the second film expressing concern for Sakura and her friends due to the incidents with the final card.

In the anime series, Kaho is voiced by Emi Shinohara. In the English adaptation Cardcaptors, her name is changed to Layla McKenzie.

Rika Sakaki

RIKA SAKAKI

Rika Sasaki (佐々木 利佳 Sasaki Rika?) is a classmate and friend of titular character Sakura Kinomoto. She is considered to be very elegant and mature for her age, though she can also be shy. During the series, she is also shown to be a skilled cook and very good at crafts. During the series, Rika is affected by the Clow Cards a couple of time. Early in the series, she buys a brooch that is actually The Sword card. The card takes her over and causes her to attack Sakura. Sakura is able to stop Rika by using The Illusion card to show her an image of her beloved, allowing Sakura to capture the card. During the second half of the series, she is nearly drowned during a magical trial Eriol Hiiragizawa created to cause Sakura to convert a Clow Card to Sakura Card.

During the series, Rika is shown to be in a romantic relationship with her teacher Yoshiyuki Terada. In the manga series, they are engaged to be married when she is old enough, and they frequently spend time alone together on "dates." In the anime adaptation, the engagement is removed as are many of their dates, however they are still shown to have affection for one another. Rika gives Terada the hand-made teddy bear she made, and he names it after her. In both the manga and anime, when Sakura uses the Illusion card to stop Rika's attacks, she calls the image "Sensei" which means "teacher" in Japanese. During the final judgement when Yue show's Sakura a world where everyone has lost their feelings for the one they love the most, Rika is shown handing Terada a paper without her usual blush and shy look.

In the Cardcaptors English adaptation, Rika's name is changed to Rita and all hints of her relationship with Terada are removed. Instead of being a good student, she is depicted as having trouble with her school work and her blushing around Terada is explained away as being embarrassed at having to stay after school so often.

In the original anime series, she is voiced by Tomoko Kawakami. In the English dub of the second film, she is voiced by Stevie Bloch.

Sonomi Daidouji

SONOMI DAIDOUJI

Sonomi Daidouji (大道寺 園美 Daidōji Sonomi?) is the mother of titular character Sakura's best friend Tomoyo Daidouji, and the first cousin of Sakura's late mother Nadeshiko Kinomoto. She is rarely seen in the series, but is said to be a wealthy woman and the President of a large toy corporation. She greatly loved her cousin Nadeshiko, and disapproved of her marriage to Fujitaka, later blaming Fujitaka for Nadeshiko's death at a young age. During the marriage, it is implied that Nadeshiko was at least partially cut off from her family, but Sonomi has Tomoyo keep her hair long because it reminds her of Nadeshiko.

After meeting Sakura for the first time, Sonomi realizes that Nadeshiko had lived a happy life and is able to come to terms with the marriage. At times, she still treats Fujitaka as a "rival" competing to love Sakura more, but she also helps him pass on gifts from Sakura to her grandfather and to arrange for Sakura to meet her great-grandfather while on a family vacation. Sonomi shows great affection for Sakura, wanting to join her and Tomoyo whenever Sakura comes over to visit.

In the Cardcaptors English adaptation, her name is changed to Samantha Taylor and her declaration of love for Nadeshiko is modified to a purely familiar love rather than a romantic love.

Chiharu Mihara

CHIHARU MIHARA

Chiharu Mihara (三原 千春 Mihara Chiharu?) is a friend and classmate of Sakura Kinomoto, as well as a fellow member of the cheerleading squad. Chiharu is often in charge of stopping Takashi Yamazaki when he starts spinning lies about the history of objects and events. Though she is regularly seen jokingly strangling him or dragging him away by his collar, they have been friends since kindergarten and are a couple. At the end of the series when Sakura is struggling to come to terms with her feelings for Syaoran, Chiharu gives her advice about love and acknowledging your true feelings.

In the anime adaptation, Chiharu and Yamazaki's relationship is less clearly stated, but she gives him chocolates for Valentine's Day and they are frequently seen together both in and out of school. When Sakura is shown a world where everyone connected to the cards has lost their feelings for the one they love the most, Chiharu and Yamazaki are shown reacting to one another as virtual strangers. Chiharu's name is changed to Chelsea in the Cardcaptors English adaptation of the series, and she and Yamazaki are changed from a couple to cousins displaying sibling rivalry.

Meiling Li

MEILING LI

Meiling Li (李 苺鈴 Ri Mairin?, Chinese Pinyin: Lǐ Méilín) is a character that appears only in the anime adaptation of Cardcaptor Sakura. Introduced in episode 19, she is Syaoran Li's cousin and self-proclaimed fiancée. As children living in Hong Kong, they both trained in martial arts under the tutelage of Wang Wei. One night her pet bird escaped from his cage, and the normally quiet and withdraw Syaoran told her not to cry, then left. After spending hours in the rain, he returned with the bird and Meiling was both grateful and touched. From that day, she devoted herself to him, eventually declaring that she liked him above all others and, reasoning that he liked her as well, she declared them to be engaged. At the same time, she promised that if he ever found someone he liked more than her, she would give him up.[1]

In coming to Tokyo, Meiling intends to help Syaoran gather the Clow Cards, and actively dislikes Sakura. As the series progresses, Meiling develops a grudging respect for Sakura that turns into a good friendship by the time Meiling returns to Hong Kong in episode 43. During her initial visit, Meiling seemed to recognize that Syaoran was falling in love with Sakura, but it wasn't until she briefly returned in episode 60 that she fully acknowledges and accepts Sakura as the person Syaoran loves. Wanting to keep his promise, Syaoran attempts to tell her that he loves Sakura, but Meiling interrupts and tells him that she knows because he is now calling Sakura by her first name, something he only does for his sisters and herself. She smiles at Syaoran with tears in her eyes and declares that the engagement is called off, then quickly leaves. Meiling spends the night at Tomoyo Daidōji's house to release all of her sadness through much screaming and tears without burdening Syaoran. At the end of the episode, Meiling returns home and is not seen again in the main series. She returns in the second movie, with Syaoran, and together with Tomoyo tries to help Sakura confess her own feelings to him.

Unlike Syaoran, Meiling has no magical abilities, relying solely on her physical fighting abilities and a healthy dose of pride. Her lack of powers, however, results in her hindering more than helping Syaoran in most battles against the cards. She challenges the The Fight card in episode 20, and was nearly badly wounded and had to be rescued by Syaoran. Recognizing that she was being a burden, Meiling grew upset and lashed out at Syaoran. However, she was then able to be an aid to him while fighting The Twin card, as their years of practicing martial arts together enables them to match the card's synchronized fighting style.

Fujitaka Kinomoto

FUJITAKA KINOMOTO

Fujitaka Kinomoto (木之本 藤隆 Kinomoto Fujitaka?) is the father of titular character Sakura Kinomoto, and a descendant of the creator of the Clow Cards, Clow Reed. A busy professor of archaeology at Towa University, Fujitaka is a kind and caring father. He met his late wife Nadeshiko while doing his first year as a teacher at her high school. Nadeshiko had climbed a tree to return a baby bird to its nest, but fell out of the tree, landing on Fujitaka. Upon seeing her, he stated that "an angel has fallen from the sky." They fell in love and married when she was sixteen. Though Nadeshiko died seven years before the start of the series, Fujitaka is shown to still be very much in love with her and devoted to her memory. He keeps a picture of her in the dining room, changing it each morning.

Little is initially said about Fujitaka's family or past. During the second half of the series, it is revealed that when Clow Reed divided his soul, seeking to no longer be the most powerful magician in the world, he split it into two halves, one which became Eriol Hiiragizawa holding all of the magic and memories, and the other being Fujitaka, who has no magic of his own, but fathered the one who would inherit the cards. It is stated that Fujitaka has no magical powers of his own, but he is also unaffected by other people's magic, such as the Eriol's sleep spell. At the end of the series, Eriol gives half of his magic to Fujitaka. This enables Fujitaka to finally see the spirit of Nadeshiko, who has been watching over her family since her death.

In the anime adaptation, Fujitaka's role as the other half of Clow Reed's reincarnation is completely removed as is his immunity to Eriol's magic and he is never able to see Nadeshiko's spirit

Touya Kinomoto

TOUYA KINOMOTO
Sakura's older brother. He enjoys teasing Sakura, calling her the 'Monster' for fun. To Sakura, he's just the regular annoying big brother. In reality, he really does care for her and wishes to protect her. He and Syaoran don't get along. He has countless part-time jobs, ranging from a waiter at an amusement park to a Teddy Bear Mascot, and shows up virtually everywhere Sakura goes.

Ruby Moon Or Nakuru Akizuki

RUBY MOON (NAKURU AKIZUKI)
Ruby Moon (ルビー・ムーン Rubī Mūn?) is one of two magical guardians created by Eriol Hiiragizawa. The counterpart to the original guardian Yue, Ruby Moon is genderless but refers to herself as female. When Eriol transfers to Tomoeda Elementary, Ruby Moon created a false form named Nakuru Akizuki (秋月 奈久留 Akizuki Nakuru?) and enrolls in Seijou High School, entering the same class as Toya Kinomoto, Sakura's brother, and Yukito Tsukishiro, the false form of Yue who is unaware of his true nature. As Akizuki, she acts as a general annoyance, deliberately interfering every time Toya tries to talk to Yukito about the latter's dwindling energy. She claims she wants to consume Toya's energy herself, though its never stated that she actually has a need for it nor why she couldn't simply steal it. When Toya is finally able to speak with Yue and give him all of his magical energy to sustain Yue's life, Akizuki gives up her pursuit. In the final battle, Ruby Moon battles Yue and initially appears to be winning. However, Yue is able to get past her due to his greater determination and desire to protect Sakura.

Yue

Yue

Yue's appearance is that of a beautiful young man with long silver braided hair and violet (alice blue in anime) cat-like eyes. He has a pair of feathered wings that he can use to fly. True to his namesake, Yue draws his power from "softer" moon energies--which are stronger during a full moon.

He is a capable fighter who can raise powerful magical barriers, send deadly crystal shards at his adversaries, draw up energy around his hands which seems to be able to cut like a blade, shoot energy arrows from an energy bow that he can summon at will, in addition to other magical attacks, such as telekinesis. In the anime he also seems to have some sort of telepathy, as he was able to put Li and Sakura into a trance-like state during the final judgment, and then teleport them a small distance. Yue's skill with the bow manifests itself even in his human form, as can be seen in the archery competition when Yukito's arrows unfailingly land on the bull's eye.

Beyond his role as The Judge, Yue was also a favored companion to Clow Reed, and is speculated to have much deeper feelings for him than that of his creator, which Kero supports by once cryptically commenting that Yue has "his own reasons" for missing Clow. He is highly intelligent, and usually cool and focused, although prone to fury when Clow or, later, Sakura is endangered. He is also a very kind and sympathetic character, though he is reluctant to show it.

During the final judgment, Yue demonstrates the ability to either circumvent or manipulate the power of any Clow cards that fall under his jurisdiction. For example, he cannot be frozen using the Time card, or bound using the Wood card as both are under his jurisdiction. Ironically, this ability helps lead to his defeat during the final judgment. After Sakura's wand transforms into the star wand she invokes Windy to try and capture Yue. Yue believes he can still control Windy as it falls under his jurisdiction. As a result, he tries to take control of it. Either because Windy was invoked using the new wand which draws upon Sakura's own power or because her determination overrode his ability, his attempt fails and he is easily captured.

Yukito Tsukishiro

YUKITO TSUKISHIRO

From the moment Yukito is introduced, it is clear that Sakura has an enormous crush on him. She continually marvels that he can be friends with her "barbaric brother." Everyone involved, including Yukito himself, believes that his meeting Touya in junior high school three years ago had been coincidence.

However, Yukito's nature as the false form of Yue also means that many of the things he thought he knew about himself are false. He lives in an elaborate house with his grandparents (the house is real, but the grandparents do not exist). In fact, it is unclear whether or not Yukito himself existed at all before his meeting with Toya and introduction to Sakura.

Yukito is peripherally involved in many of Sakura's adventures as the Cardcaptor, mainly because of Sakura's crush on him and his close proximity to the Kinomoto family. In the process, Yukito becomes the object of another juvenile crush; this one held by Syaoran Li (Li Showron). However, it is discovered later that Syaoran was just attracted to the magical energies of the moon residing within Yukito, as Syaoran draws his magical power from the moon.

In Cardcaptors, all overt references to Yukito's homosexual relationship with Touya were removed, and Syaoran's 'crush' on him was played down. Sakura's crush was still present however.

Not until the last Clow Card is collected does Yukito's true form, Yue, emerge and challenge Sakura's right to the cards. Afterwards, the Yukito and Yue personalities coexist, with Yukito unaware of Yue's presence.

Unfortunately, the strain on Yue's energies becomes so great that even Yukito's massive consumption of food can no longer support it. Yukito begins to fall ill, becoming drowsy, falling asleep at the slightest opportunity, and eventually beginning to fade away altogether. The only thing that can save him is a massive infusion of magical energy, which Yue finally receives from Toya (whose earlier efforts to warn Yukito of his plight were continually interrupted by the aggressive Nakuru Akizuki, also known as Eriol Hiiragizawa's Moon Guardian, Ruby Moon).

Soon afterwards, Yukito listens to and very gently declines Sakura's confession. He has always been aware of Sakura's feelings but tells her that he believes they are more platonic (as Yukito resembles Sakura's father) than romantic. Sakura immediately realizes that "the one (Yukito) likes best" is in fact Toya. Earlier that day, Yukito had told Toya how alarmed he was that he had suddenly learned about the existence of the Yue identity and the falsehood of most of his memories, but Toya replies that it doesn't matter to him since the moments they have shared together are real. After Yukito rejects Sakura the two of them seem to adopt a brother-sister type of relationship.

In the manga, Yukito is last seen in the Kinomoto kitchen with Toya, helping to prepare breakfast. There's a similar scene in the anime series, where they're preparing lunch. This somewhat implies that Toya has come to fully understand Yukito's feelings for him and reciprocates them.

Clow Reed

CLOW REED

Clow Reed (クロウ・リード Kurō Rīdo?) is the magician who originally created the Clow Cards, and their magical guardians Cerberus and Yue. Born of an English father and a Chinese mother, Clow created a new type of magic that blended both Eastern and Western magical elements. The character of Clow is only seen in flash backs, as he has long been dead before the series starts. Few details are revealed about his character, personality, or life.

When Clow knew he was about to die, he chose his then unborn descendent, Sakura Kinomoto, to become the new guardian of the cards and the new master of Yue and Cerberus. Clow's magical ability allowed him to foresee most of the future and plan many of the situations that would enable Sakura to succeed in taking full possession of the Clow Cards. He also deliberately made the sealing wand for the cards pink, reflecting that its future user would be a young girl. He also split his soul into two reincarnations, Eriol Hiiragizawa who had all of his memories and magic he possessed, and Fujitaka Kinomoto, Sakura's father.

Cerberus and Spinal

CERBERUS (KERO-CHAN)
Cerberus is the guardian of the mystical yet dangerous book of Clow cards. He is the guardian of the sun, one of the two duty bound to protect the powerful cards, and opposite of the lunar guardian, Yue. For several decades he was locked away in the book of the Clow, which held the cards upon the death of their previous master, Clow Reed, until a new master appeared to take hold of the cards and their guardians. Cerberus’s character first appears at the beginning of the series when this new master, Sakura Kinomoto, releases him from the book. Once Cerberus is awakened (he was napping on the front cover) and released from the book he discovers the Clow cards have vanished, and appoints Sakura the title of Cardcaptor, and sends her off to retrieve the cards. Cerberus’s major role in the first half of the story is to select the candidate to take up his old master’s footsteps and inherit the Clow Cards, and to aid the candidate in their task of collecting the now awakened cards. Once all of the cards are captured and the Cardcaptor’s name is written upon them, Cerberus’s chosen candidate is then judged on their worthiness to own the cards by the other guardian, Yue. In the second story arc, Cerberus’s major role is to help and protect Sakura as she faces numerous challenges set upon her by another sorcerer, Eriol Hiiragizawa, in order to force Sakura to transform the Clow cards under her own power. In the final confrontation with Eriol at Tokyo tower, Cerberus helps Sakura to transform the Light and Dark cards by transferring his power into her staff.

SPINAL SUN
Spinel Sun (スピネル・サン Supineru San?) is the cat-like magical guardian created by Eriol Hiiragizawa as a counter part to Clow Reed's original guardian Cerberus. Spinel Sun's true form is a winged black panther, while his false form is similar to a small winged cat. Nicknamed Suppi by Ruby Moon, Spinel Sun spends most of his time reading and projects a calm demeanor. Ruby Moon often teases him that he needs to have more fun. During the series, he mostly remains out of sight of the main characters, except when he once runs into Cerberus in his false form. Fortunately for him, Cerberus doesn't suspect anything and instead declares him a monster and feeds him sweets, not realizing that the sweets would turn Spinel Sun into a hyperactive eating machine. Cerberus does not learn his true identity until just before the final battle where the two cats face one another. Initially, Spinel Sun appears to have the upper hand, however Cerberus' greater determination to protect Sakura enable him to defeat him.

tomoyo daidouji

Tomoyo is the best friend of the series heroine, Sakura Kinomoto (Sakura Avalon in Cardcaptors). When she discovers that Sakura has become the Cardcaptor, she becomes Sakura's primary assistant by designing "battle costumes" (similar to another CLAMP character, Hokuto Sumeragi, who designs extravagant outfits for herself and her twin Subaru) and filming all of her magical (and non-magical) endeavours. (The videotaping, however, seems to be more to Tomoyo's personal benefit and enjoyment than it is to Sakura's.) Tomoyo faithfully keeps Sakura's new identity secret and often covers for her in times of need.

In the early releases of the manga, one of the artists was not aware that Tomoyo had feelings for Sakura. As a result, some scenes in the beginning chapters show Tomoyo with a slight crush on Sakura's brother Toya. Clamp soon clarified the story with each other, however, and Tomoyo is subsequently seen showing more attention towards Sakura.[1] This is rectified in the series by a scene revealing that Tomoyo blushes around Toya because he reminds her of Sakura.

Tomoyo is the daughter of the president of Daidōji Toy Company, Sonomi Daidōji (Samantha Taylor). Sonomi and Sakura's mother Nadeshiko Kinomoto (Natasha Avalon) are first cousins, which makes Sakura, Toya and Tomoyo second cousins. Tomoyo's father is never shown in the series and is only alluded to once, but it is apparent that he does not live in the Daidōji household. Her western-style house in Tomoeda is quite grand, with several maids serving the household. She is sometimes attended by the Daidōji family's team of female bodyguards, and has access to prototype technology from her mother's company (including the cell phones she supplies to Sakura and her circle).

Tomoyo is very mature for her age. One of her major character traits is her selflessness towards Sakura. Tomoyo is kind, caring, highly intelligent, beautiful, meticulous, and very melodic (she has a superb singing voice and often has solos in choir recitals). She always speaks using formal verb conjugations and expressions, giving her a unique air of refinement amongst the cast. When needed, Tomoyo can exhibit considerable cunning and resourcefulness, which was most prominently displayed in the final movie (much of which revolved around a complicated scheme she had devised to give Sakura as many opportunities as possible to confess her feelings to Syaoran).

Tomoyo aids Sakura's efforts to be in the company of Yukito Tsukishiro (Julian Star) on many occasions, and, in the second half of the series, becomes the confidante of Syaoran Li (Li Showron) when he finds himself falling in love with Sakura.

shaoran li

Syaoran is a distant relative of Clow Reed, the creator of the Clow Cards. As a member of the Li clan of sorcerers from Hong Kong, of which Clow's mother was a member, Syaoran believes that he should be the one to inherit the Clow Cards, not Sakura Kinomoto.[1] He first appears as an antagonist in the story, capturing a few cards for himself in the anime (though none in the manga). He acted cold and nonchalant to Sakura. He never even says her name until the second season.[2] As the series progresses, and especially after Sakura is officially deemed the new master of the Cards, Syaoran drops his rivalistic attitude towards her and becomes her ally and friend, eventually falling in love with her. However, Sakura is completely oblivious to these feelings and thinks of him simply as a close friend.

Syaoran is shown, or at least implied, to be an excellent martial artist, swordsman (using a Chinese jian), and sorcerer. His magical abilities are centered around elemental spells using his sword or a collection of ofuda.

Although he claims certain Clow Cards for himself in the anime, Syaoran does not actually capture any Cards, as the act of capturing can only be performed using Sakura's sealing wand. However, if Syaoran has played a major role in weakening or cornering the Card entity prior to its capture, credit for the capture is awarded to him (as the materialized Card floats autonomously to its owner after capture). While Sakura writes her name in rōmaji on the Clow Cards, Syaoran writes his name in Chinese characters.

Before his relationship with Sakura, Syaoran found himself attracted to Yukito Tsukishiro, often blushing madly and abruptly running away at the sight of him. While Sakura also harboured a crush on Yukito, Syaoran would compete with her for his affections, usually by getting him a better present, making him better food, or giving the better compliment. As he shows no interest in Sakura in the first season, the impression is given that he and Sakura are rivals, for the cards and for love. It is revealed later that Syaoran was magically attracted to the magical energies of the moon, which were residing within Yukito, as Syaoran drew his magical power from the moon. Sakura, although she was drawn to a person that housed "power", was truly in love with Yukito, as stated by Kero (Cerberus) in episode 51 (Sakura and the big teddy bear).[3]

Syaoran and Cerberus often fight in the series, where Syaoran often calls him a "plush toy", or a "stuffed animal", while Cerberus retorts with patronizing terms like "kid", and "brat".

A major change to Syaoran's character in Cardcaptors involves elevating Li Showron to become the male lead character, rather than a supporting character for Sakura in Cardcaptor Sakura. Here, Li is also referred to as a Cardcaptor, while he has no such title in the original series, as Cerberus never selected him, and has no initial ability to seal cards for himself.

sakura kinomoto

Sakura is an extremely energetic and cheerful character. She is very athletic, being a member of her school's cheerleading squad and an excellent runner. [7] Her "invincible spell", "Everything will surely be all right." (「絶対大丈夫だよ。」 "Zettai daijōbu da yo."?), has carried her through innumerable trials and obstacles as she masters her magical skills. She often comes across as naïve, clumsy, and clueless, but she has her perceptive moments on occasion. Her favorite foods are omelette and noodles with seafood and her favorite recipe is pancakes. Her birthday is on April 1. She hates Mathmatics, loves Gym and Music, and her blood type is A.[8]

Sakura lives with her older brother, Toya Kinomoto (Tori Avalon), and her father, Fujitaka Kinomoto (Aiden Avalon). The three help manage their home together, often rotating cooking and cleaning chores. Sakura's mother, Nadeshiko Kinomoto (Natasha Avalon), became seriously ill, and died when Sakura was three years old.
